Mortality

Here's something to think about the next time you decide to take a day off from the drawing board to play video games: you're going to die. Soon.

How old are you? How many years of productivity do you have in front of you? Even if you live to be 80 and work until that time?

It really ain't all that long, y' know. Time is relative, and the older you get, the quicker it passes. Don't blame me, blame Einstein.

How many pages can you do a month? A year? How many years are you going to do pages? How many of these pages are saying what you need to say before you cash in the big chips? How much time do you have to waste?

Stupid questions? Painful questions? Frightening questions?

Yeah, sometimes all of the above.

Mortality is a real bitch. It takes alot of us decades to reach our potential... which leaves very little time to do Good Work. Damned little time.

So is it really worth it to spend hours blasting zombies and saving princesses?

Yeah, probably not... but I do it, too.

It's wicked difficult to balance "life time" between "life's work time." It's even more difficult when ya gotta work a day job to pay the bills that the art gig doesn't pay, which most all of us gotta do. Alla that work definitely demands some goof off time and some quality time with friends and family, which leaves even less time for art time.

Time time time... GAH!!!

I ain't got no answers to these dilemmas, but it's definitely something all creative people need to think about from time to time. Finding the balance between a great life and a great life's work is the most difficult trick of all.

Good luck and Godspeed... cuz it's not all that long a trip from the opening credits to that big "game over" screen in the sky.
