Today's Message

It has to be said, and not enough people are saying it. Well, I'm just the man for the job! Here goes:

Comics are fun!

There! I've said it! I feel much better! It's as if the weight of the world has been lifted from my shoulders (or at least the weight of Todd McFarlane's ego. Can we all say a prayer of thanks for Barry Bonds?).

With all the web sites out there with all the message boards filled with all the trolls feeding and fueling all the senseless arguments over all the pointless comics minutia, the idea of fun gets lost in the shuffle.

Comics are just entertainment, folks!

Quit taking them so damned seriously! They began as and continue to be fun! Yes! Fun! Fun, fun, fun, fun, FUN! Quit analyzing them, the business of making them and those who create them and just read the damned things! Have some fun, why doncha? Sheesh!

Yeah, yeah - comics are an artform, they don't gotta be fun. They can be art, or literature or whatever highfalutin' gibberish ya wanna label them. They can be grim, gritty, dark, edgy, depressing, moving, sinister and everything else that ain't bright and cheery, but can we please agree that it's okay for comics to be fun? Huh? Can we? Come on, I wanna hear you say it. Together now... ready?

1...2...3...

"Comics are fun!"

Good! You're on your way to full recovery. My bill is in the mail.

So the next time some dipshit asks you why you read comics at your age, simply reply:

"Because comics are fun!"

There ain't no better answer than that. You know why? Cuz there ain't a damned thing wrong with trying to have a little bit of fun.

Hallelujah and Amen!
